We spent an entire Saturday morning rearranging trash
Hi, my name is Nkululeko Morrison. I am 30 years old and I am a software developer from South Africa. I am currently living and working in the Netherlands. My family and I have been here for about a month and a half now.
I have been trying to think of a particular experience that stands out for me since moving to the Netherlands, but honestly, there have been too many. However, for this video, I'll share one story in particular, which has to do with waste management. Basically, my wife and I have spent an entire Saturday morning rearranging trash. And even though that sounds bad, it was actually a really life-changing experience for us.
When we moved into our apartment, it was recently renovated and kind of new. So we did not have any outside bins, we would use stuff and just throw it in black bags. So basically what we have done our whole lives. Eventually, our landlord dropped off the bin, but he dropped off three bins. And we were like, "Okay, that's a bit much. But thanks." Little did we know that in the Netherlands waste is split for recycling purposes, which is beautiful when you do not have all your trash mixed up in a number of black bags.
Long story short, we eventually split the waste and ever since then my wife and I have been a lot more aware of being wasteful with food because we had to go through everything we had thrown out in the past week and a half and that was honestly a real eye-opening experience. Since then, we have learned to split our waste accordingly (so we never have to go through it again) and we've come to really appreciate waste management and recycling as a whole.
So yeah, thank you Neverlands!
