OVpay: You can now use your debit card to check-in on public transport!
OVpay is the perfect solution for occasional public transport travel. You won't need to buy a separate ticket or OV-chipkaart - just check in with your debit card and travel in second class without any discount. This gives you the flexibility to travel however you like!
How does it work?
It's incredibly easy to travel with your contactless debit, credit card, or mobile phone - no activation required. And, when Dutch banks move over to using Visa and Mastercard later this year it’ll mean that new arrivals in the Netherlands, like our Globetrotters, should be able to use their existing debit cards from South Africa to check-in hassle free!
Just take your card out of your wallet or use your mobile phone, then hold it against the card reader when checking in and out. If you bought an e-ticket, then you can check in by holding your ticket in the NS-app against the card reader.
View your journey costs on your bank account statement and link your debit card to Mijn NS for access to your travel history and costs.
Always remember to take your card out of your wallet when checking in and out to ensure you're using the right card and avoid being charged twice and always use the same card to check-out that you used to check-in.
Soon, it will be possible to check in and out using your debit card, credit card, or mobile phone on all carriers across the country!
