Navigating Life in the Netherlands for South Africans - A Must-Read!
Thank you for the opportunity to review your book. I really enjoyed turning each page to discover something new, useful or relatable. Many people underestimate the impact of a move abroad on themselves and their families. The sheer logistics of packing up one's life is already overwhelming, not to mention the emotions of leaving loved ones behind, learning a new culture and finding new friends.
This book is an essential resource for South Africans considering a move to the Netherlands. It provides a great balance between serious and humorous topics but overall also timely and realistic information about what to expect in each phase of the process. As a Saffa who emigrated for love almost 15 years ago, I can truly attest to the need for this resource at this time. When I moved back in the day, there were only a handful of us here in NL and adjusting was extremely hard for this farm girl who had barely traveled outside the borders of her country before. I wish someone would have warned me back then just how difficult and complicated the process would be!
From topics like simple daily life to survivor's guilt, this is a book every potential newbie in the Netherlands should read again and again and again....before taking the leap, while taking the leap and again after a few years of being settled in this land of cheese, tulips and so much more.
